My June Project

As you may have noticed, there weren't as many daily paintings posted this month....
I have this portrait commission that is becoming my 'Mona Lisa'....  I have it on my easel and I'm focused on it day and night... I'll walk by... LQQK.... walk away.... come back and LQQK some more....work on it a little.... go away some more....carry it around a little.... You DO know that Leonardo DaVinci carried his Mona Lisa with him everywhere?  For about 31 years???
Hmmmm.....I think I'll give her up next month....

Somewhere in the Past

Pensive moments, thinking of nothing and everything.... we all do it... don't we?

Still Life in the Light

I was in a 'flower' mood today, so I cut a few of my blooming roses off the balcony, and casually arranged them into a glass vase.
Now I can always remember them...captured in timeless transformation.

Dana

My 'Sweet Dana'.... from a photo of my youngest daughter when she was almost 2 years old.  Now she is 22... time passes quickly!

Cher

Quickly capturing a gesture, not much more can be a challenge, without overworking it.

Red Fox Indian

Indian dress and headdress fascinate me... this ceremonial headdress was just totally awesome to paint.  Think of the history and the connection the Indians with nature.

About Me

My photo
Debra Schott
Laguna Beach, California, United States
"If you look behind a good artist you'll see square miles of canvas." I started on my professional artpath by Faux Finishing and painting murals in clients' homes....hoping to get those 'square miles' behind me! I took workshops at 'The Finishing School' on Long Island NY, and then studied mural techniques from the set designers of the Metropolitan Opera in NYC, I've included a few examples of my decorative painting in my blog and believe me when I say that whatever an artist puts in his toolbox is pulled out whenever it's needed! Clients were always challenging me, first by requesting mural elements and then more decorative finishes. I studied floral painting techniques and then started taking intensive workshops at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, studying color and impressionistic portraits. I got the portrait 'bug'...it's like a Pandora's box, once opened you can't get it shut... So after studying the form and color, I am now concentrating on the concept of painting 'light' ...
